Zinus is a legitimate budget mattress brand with millions of verified Amazon buyers. It ranks consistently among the top budget mattress options for value. That said, "good" depends on your needs: for under $300, the Green Tea foam is genuinely comfortable for average-weight side and back sleepers. For hot sleepers or heavier individuals (230+ lbs), the iCoil hybrid is a better fit. Zinus is not in the same quality tier as luxury brands like Purple or Saatva, but at half (or a quarter) the price, the value proposition is hard to beat.
This is a critical question. Some older Zinus mattress models used fiberglass as a fire barrier in the inner sock layer. If you remove the outer cover and wash it, fiberglass particles can escape into your bedroom. Zinus has updated some models to use alternative fire barriers (rayon/silica). We recommend reading the specific model's care instructions — if it says "do not remove cover," that is a strong indicator of fiberglass inside. Zinus mattresses typically last 5–8 years with normal use, which is shorter than mid-range competitors that claim 8–10 years. The 10-year warranty sounds reassuring, but it only covers manufacturing defects, not normal compression/sagging. Customer reviews on Amazon show a pattern: buyers are highly satisfied for the first 3–4 years, then start noticing body impressions forming in year 5–6. For a primary mattress expected to last 10+ years, consider stepping up to the iCoil hybrid or a mid-tier brand. For a guest room or college dorm, the foam models are an excellent value.
Zinus does not offer a sleep trial. If you buy on Amazon, you're subject to Amazon's standard return policy (typically 30 days for most items). Once you sleep on the mattress, initiating a return can be complicated — you'll need to arrange a pickup, which Amazon sometimes subsidizes and sometimes does not. This is a meaningful disadvantage compared to brands like Nectar (365-night trial) or Casper (100-night trial). Factor this in before buying.
