Our Honest Zinus Review 2026 (After 2 Years of Use)

In January 2024, I bought a Zinus Green Tea 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress to replace a sagging 8-year-old spring mattress. I sleep on my side, weigh 145 pounds, and share the bed with my partner who weighs 170 pounds. Two years later, I'm writing this from our bedroom where the same mattress is still in use every night. This isn't a 30-day "trial" review. It's the long-term reality of living with a foam bed that cost less than $400.

Below you'll find what actually happened: the setup, the smells, the body impressions, the stains that came out, and the one thing that started to annoy me after 18 months. If you're deciding whether a Zinus mattress is right for you-or whether to buy one in 2026-this is what you need to know based on real, daily use in a home with two adults, a dog, and zero white-glove delivery service.

Quick Summary

What We Tested Details
Model Zinus Green Tea 12" Memory Foam
Price Paid (Jan 2024) $379.99 (Queen size)
Firmness Medium-Firm (5-6/10)
Thickness 12 inches
Trial 100 nights
Warranty 10 years

Two years in, the mattress still supports two adults without noticeable sag under either of us. The Green Tea foam is holding up better than the 8-year-old spring set it replaced, and we've had zero issues with edge support collapsing. What started as a budget purchase has effectively become a permanent fixture in our bedroom.

That said, it's not perfect. By month 18, the top layer began to compress under my shoulders, and a single small stain required a vinegar-baking soda treatment. The mattress also arrived with an off-gassing odor that took about 48 hours to fully dissipate. If you're sensitive to chemical smells, plan on airing it out in a well-ventilated room for a few days.

Bottom line: for under $400, Zinus delivers a mattress that feels and performs like models twice the price. It's not luxury, but it's reliable, and it's still here after 730 nights of use.

Setup Experience

Unboxing a Zinus mattress is closer to receiving a giant roll of shrink-wrapped foam than a traditional mattress. The Queen-size box measured roughly 38 x 38 x 30 inches and weighed about 85 pounds-manageable for two adults but awkward alone.

What Arrived

  • A 12-inch Green Tea Memory Foam mattress compressed in a vacuum-sealed bag
  • One plastic edge guard (installed by peeling and pressing the adhesive strip)
  • A single sheet of instruction graphics (no words, just pictures)
  • No box spring or foundation required (though we used a 7-inch wooden slat base)

Unboxing & Expansion

We placed the box on our bed frame with the plastic seal facing up, sliced open the top, and pulled the mattress out. Within 30 seconds, the mattress began to expand. By minute five, it had reached roughly 80 percent of its final height. After 30 minutes, it was fully expanded and ready for a sheet.

Tip: If you're doing this alone, slide the mattress onto your bed frame before cutting the bag. Once it starts inflating, it's too wide to maneuver easily through doorways.

First Impressions

The mattress felt medium-firm at first, with noticeable hug around shoulders but firm support under hips and lower back. The Green Tea cover is quilted and stitched, giving it a slightly upholstered look that hides minor lumps. We slept on it the first night with a basic fitted sheet and woke up without any immediate complaints.

Year One Impressions

Sleep Quality

I'm a side sleeper who prefers a mattress with enough give to cushion shoulders and hips. The Zinus 12-inch foam provided exactly that-enough sink to prevent pressure points without letting me feel like I was sleeping in a hammock. My partner, who prefers firmer surfaces, also reported no lower-back pain.

Temperature Regulation

Memory foam has a reputation for sleeping hot. In our experience, the Zinus Green Tea cover helped dissipate heat better than I expected. We didn't wake up sweating, though I did notice a slight warmth around my torso on summer nights. Using a bamboo or moisture-wicking sheet helped mitigate this.

Odor & Off-Gassing

The mattress arrived with a strong "new mattress" smell-chemical, slightly sweet, and reminiscent of freshly unpacked electronics. We left it unzipped and aired out in the bedroom with the window open for 48 hours. By the third night, the odor was gone and never returned. If you're sensitive to VOCs, plan on airing it out before use.

Edge Support & Motion Isolation

Edge support held up surprisingly well. Sitting on the edge didn't cause noticeable sag, and neither of us ever rolled off the side. Motion isolation was excellent-our dog's midnight zoomies didn't wake the other person.

Year Two Durability

After roughly 365 additional nights of use, the mattress showed its first signs of wear-but nothing catastrophic.

Body Impressions

By month 18, I noticed a shallow ½-inch impression forming under my shoulders. It wasn't deep enough to cause pain or misalignment, but it was visible if I ran my hand over the surface. My partner's side, where he tends to sleep slightly more on his stomach, showed a ¼-inch depression-less noticeable but still present.

Firmness Change

The mattress felt slightly less responsive in year two. The initial "hug" around shoulders was still there, but it didn't bounce back as quickly after I shifted positions. This is typical of memory foam breaking in, but the change became more apparent after the 18-month mark.

Stains & Cleaning

In month 20, my partner spilled half a glass of red wine on the mattress near the foot. We acted fast: blotted with a clean towel, applied a vinegar-baking soda paste, let it sit for 15 minutes, then wiped with a damp cloth. The stain lifted completely. We never needed
